“Why are you removing it” and then “Why did you get it in the first place?” I assume would be your first 2 questions. The reason for both questions is of no importance. What is important is to share the removal experience to help someone make a decision between should I or should I not.
Let’s start at the beginning.
I had my tattoo done in 2011. I had it for 6 years and then decided to have it removed.
The most obvious removal option is with laser treatments, but what people do not tell you is how it really hurts. Also how expensive it gets because it takes so long.
How does it work? They shoot your tattoo with a laser beam. The ink disintegrates and then gets carried away in your blood stream and thereafter you poop it out. Literally. Here is a video from Youtube on how it works.
I booked 1 session which lasted 5 minutes and then decided this is going to take way too long. After that I booked a few sessions consisting of 3 laser treatments 20 min apart. At the 3rd session you do not feel the laser anymore.
How does it feel you ask. It hurts like hell. After the session it feels like very bad sunburn.
I was advised that I would need 10 maybe 12 sessions for my tattoo. After 10 sessions this is what it looked like.
1 session is ZAR150.00. The session where you have 3 in 1 is ZAR300.00. So after 10 session I have already spent ZAR1050.00 (USD78.00). This was taking way too long and I just did not want to go anymore. It just hurts so bad.
After a few months I started looking for an option closer to home to have the rest of my tattoo removed and a much quicker way to do it.
My sister let me know of a place called Capri Beauty in Brackenfell who does tattoo removal. They do not use laser which caught my interest.
I first phoned and spoke to one of the ladies who gave me all the information I needed to make an informed decision. At first I was a bit put off by the cost. It is not as “cheap” as laser, but it is way more effective. Depending on the size of the tattoo the price is determined. You can get all the information on the website Capri Beauty and on their Facebook page. They also have a cool video explaining the process. Watch it here
I found another video on Youtube from the developer of this process. You can watch it here
With this process you need between 1-3 sessions. Each session is about an hour. The consultant prepares and explains everything in front of you. I found this very comforting and it made me at ease.
We were hoping for 1, but I would need another session and then wait for the skin to heal. This takes quite some time, between 6-9 months, but no problem to cover up the healing skin for any occasion. I had to do it or my wedding and you can not see a thing.
Here are some pictures of the progress and what it looked like.
From left to right. First session // Day after the first session // 1 week // 2 weeks // 3 weeks // 5weeks
I am very happy with the progress so far and because I can not see my removal everyday, I tend to forget about it, but I put on my cream everyday. I paid for my first session ZAR1500.00 (USD112.00) including the cream. I am not sure what the next session will cost as it is basically gone as you can see on the photo below.
This is after 19 weeks.
I will have updates after I went for the second session. I am very excited to see how it looks after it is healed completely.
